Advertisers Running Out of Ad Space

eggvertising.jpgEverywhere we turn we’re bombarded with advertisements. In fact just the other day I was trying to read the latest copy of Readers Digest but there were so many ads that it was difficult to find the actual stories. But advertisers are getting more and more creative in finding ways to influence our purchasing behavior. The newest trend being used by CBS to advertise its Fall lineup is your refrigerator – more specifically that carton of eggs.

CBS is planning on placing laser imprints of its trademark eye insignia, as well as logos for some of its shows, on eggs — 35 million of them in September and October. The new “egg-vertising” campaign will use similar wordplay in the planned slogans including:

  • “Crack the Case on CBS” (CSI)
  • “Scramble to Win on CBS” (The Amazing Race)
  • “Hard-Boiled Drama” (Shark)
  • “Shelling Out Laughs”
  • “Funny Side Up”
  • “Leave the Yolks to Us”

I just couldn’t help but laugh out loud when I saw this story. Check out the entire article (NY Times) for info on how the etching is done. Apparently even my fridge is going to be taken over with advertisements. My take on this: no thanks.
